Integrated Tooling
Transfer press finger designs cannot overcome SPM limitations caused by the process flow or die designs. Efficient and reliable transfer press tooling requires the integration of process, die and finger designs starting at the earliest stages of the part development program.
Our applications group has developed the multi-step process outlined below to direct the design, build and installation process. It consistently results in highly productive tooling packages that can transfer at rate within hours of initial installation and start-up.
Transfer Finger Concept Review
This review is part of the die design kick-off meeting for every new part development program. Representatives from the stamper, die source and Syron meet to review process and die design issues that affect part transferability and selection of the type of finger components that will contact the part. All parties discuss concepts and concerns to establish a clear direction for all aspects of the process, die and transfer finger designs. MORE
Finger Integration Package
Syron is provided with the process flow, panel position, rail position, motion curves and press / transfer specifications that will be used for the die designs. Syron adds the shovels / grippers and motion curves to the flow chart to create a design envelope for the die design source. Syron verifies that the selected motion curves fall within the parameters of the press and the stampers specifications and standards. The stamper signs off on the finished package prior to allowing die designs to proceed. This package provides a means to identify interference areas and part flow issues at the start of die design activities. MORE
Finger Integration Review
The stamper, die design source and Syron meet to review the die designs when they are 80% complete. Plan and section views of the fingers, dies and transfer curves are reviewed for part transferability and verification that established design criteria is being implemented. This review identifies potential part transfer issues prior to the start of die build activities and design modifications needed prior to 100% die design buyoff. MORE
Assembly and Finger Pre-set
Completion of the finger integration review allows Syron to proceed with the assembly, adjustment and testing of the fingers designed for a job. Each finger is assembled and preadjusted to the finger design drawings developed by Syron. All pneumatic and electric accessories are tested for proper operation resulting in a set of transfer fingers that are ready for the hard tool review and initial installation. MORE
Finger Integration Hard Tool Review
This review takes place after the dies have gone through tryout, but prior to buyoff by the stamper. The lower dies are aligned on the floor as they would appear in the press. The upper dies are turned over on the floor with pads and cams charged as they would be in the die open position. Syron application specialists introduce the assembled fingers to the dies as a final check for transfer issues. Final issues are identified and corrected without using valuable time in the production press. MORE
Installation Support
Installation support is scheduled at the stamper after the dies have been delivered, mounted and have produced an acceptable panel. Syron application specialists install the transfer fingers and make final adjustments to operational panels. The transfer is inched through several cycles followed by the full press and transfer as final tooling adjustments are made. This process provides a safe and thorough method of introducing the transfer fingers to the die space for the first time. MORE
